QS/1/5/218-237 - date: 11 January 1787
Appeal of St Keverne against order of 20 July for
removal of William Symons, wife Mary, and daughter
Elizabeth (10 months), from Northill to St Keverne.
Evidence given that William was the son of John Symons
and Elizabeth Agabus, who were married at Tavistock,
Devon, and that John Symons' legal settlement was
at St Keverne. Elizabeth had been removed, as his
widow, from Calstock to St Keverne, but the son William
had not been removed. It could further be proved that,
about 60 years ago, John Symons had married Eleanor
Hendy, with whom he had five children, and that the
subsequent marriage to Elizabeth [William's mother]
was not legal because Eleanor was living at the time.
Contended that St Keverne had admitted legal settlement
of the son, William, by not appealing against the
removal order for his mother Elizabeth to their parish:
order confirmed; costs to Northill.
